Banarasi Sarees – Traditional Ones in India

Of the different types of sarees available in India, the Banarasi sarees are the most traditional ones. These sarees show a very clear glimpse of the Mughal taste of fashion in them. These sarees are full of work in gold and silver thread embroidery on them. These sarees are compulsory in the weddings of India. Even if the bride does not wear them on her wedding day, still their presence is inevitable in her dowry. Wearing the proper jewelry with Banarasi sarees is very trendy.
The people involved in the business of Banarasi sarees are now trying their best to bring these sarees to their rightful place. Banaras Brocades and Sarees is the brand name for these sarees. Different companies like Banarasi Bunka Samiti and many others are also putting their hard work into the struggle for the international repute of these sarees. In India, different things that are used in trade or in business are now given the mark GI that is associated with the native areas of manufacturing of these goods and banarasi sarees are included in this.


Organza, silk, georgette and shatter are the major varieties of the banarasi sarees and all these varieties are further decorated with embroidery or other works of art. Different estates of India are in competition in the preparation of banarasi sarees. Even though there have been some duplicate and fake banarasi sarees shops, but now actions have been taken against them. Rajni Kant, who is the President of Human Welfare Association has issued rules for the preparation of banarasi sarees and the also for the GI status of these sarees.
